Google is continuing to refine its privacy and device controls with a new security feature spotted in early testing. In Android Canary build 2609, a toggle labeled "Require unlock for Quick Settings" has been introduced for Pixel devices.
The feature aims to protect sensitive controls from unauthorized access when a device is locked. By prompting for biometric authentication or a PIN before allowing users to pull down or adjust Quick Settings tiles, it prevents strangers from toggling key features like network access, airplane mode, or device sensors if a phone is left unattended or stolen.
Because this change was discovered in the experimental Canary channel, it is currently limited to testing environments. Features in these early builds often undergo multiple revisions, and there is no confirmed timeline for when it might arrive on stable releases for the general public.
