Apple is extending free access to its satellite-based connectivity features for an additional year, allowing supported iPhone owners to stay connected in remote areas without an immediate subscription charge.

The feature allows compatible iPhone models to send emergency SOS texts and share locations via satellite when outside the range of standard cellular and Wi-Fi networks. Since its launch, the critical service has been credited with aiding travelers and outdoor adventurers facing emergencies in off-grid locations.

While the satellite capabilities were initially expected to become a paid service after a promotional period, this extension provides existing users with continued peace of mind at no extra cost. Apple has not yet detailed how much the service will cost once the extension period concludes.
