Apple may soon expand digital identification support within Apple Wallet. According to a new report, residents in three additional US states could soon have the ability to store their driver's licenses and state IDs directly on their compatible devices.
Digital ID support allows users to present their credentials using an iPhone or Apple Watch at select airport security checkpoints and participating locations. The system uses secure elements to display required identification details without handing over a physical card.
Adoption of digital driver's licenses has been rolling out gradually across the country as state agencies establish the necessary infrastructure. Adding more states marks continued progress toward replacing physical wallets with secure digital alternatives.
