Apple is preparing to expand support for digital state IDs and driver’s licenses in Apple Wallet, with three new states expected to roll out compatibility in the near future.

The feature allows iPhone and Apple Watch users to securely add their government-issued identification directly to the Wallet app. Once stored, digital IDs can be presented at select TSA airport security checkpoints and participating locations, providing a convenient, contactless way to verify identity without presenting a physical card.

Rollout for the feature has been gradual nationwide, as adoption requires integration and regulatory approval from individual state agencies. Apple emphasizes that identity data is securely encrypted on the device and protected by Face ID or Touch ID authentication, ensuring that only the user can present their credentials.
