Early adopters of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D have reported unusually high operating temperatures on their systems. Even with high-end cooling solutions like 360mm all-in-one (AIO) liquid coolers installed, some processors were observed climbing to 95°C under load.
However, these elevated temperatures may not indicate a hardware defect or inadequate thermal paste application. As one user discovered, applying a motherboard BIOS update was enough to resolve the problem and normalize temperatures.
Firmware updates for newly launched processors often introduce critical microcode fixes, power-management tweaks, and improved sensor reporting. Users running into high thermal limits on their new chips should ensure their motherboards are updated to the latest supported firmware release.
