South Korean telecommunications providers SK Telecom and LG Uplus are preparing to launch 5G Standalone (SA) network support for upcoming Apple devices by the end of this year.

According to reports, the expanded SA coverage is targeted for future releases, specifically referencing the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18. Adopting pure 5G Standalone networks allows compatible smartphones to connect directly to dedicated 5G core infrastructure, paving the way for reduced latency and improved network performance over existing Non-Standalone configurations.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts among major carriers to upgrade mobile data infrastructure in preparation for forthcoming handset generations.
