Many modern smartphones carry ingress protection ratings that provide peace of mind against accidental spills and rain. However, relying on these water-resistant seals inside a hot, steamy bathroom can lead to unexpected and costly device failure.

The critical issue lies in the difference between liquid water and vapor. Steam consists of tiny, energetic moisture particles that can bypass protective rubber gaskets and adhesives far more easily than liquid droplets. Furthermore, the heat from a hot shower can temporarily weaken the water-resistant adhesive holding the device together.

Once steam penetrates the chassis, it condenses back into liquid water against cooler internal components. This hidden condensation can short out circuits, corrode sensitive hardware, and trigger internal moisture sensors, which typically voids standard manufacturer warranties.
