Apple has updated its list of older hardware, officially designating the original Apple TV 4K from 2017 as a "vintage" product. The device marked Apple's initial push into high-definition 4K streaming and HDR content for the living room when it debuted.

Under Apple's hardware policy, devices enter the vintage category when more than five years have elapsed since the company stopped distributing them for sale. For current owners, this status means that official repairs and replacement parts through Apple Stores and authorized service providers are now subject to inventory availability.

While this change signals that hardware support is winding down, it does not mean the device will suddenly stop working. However, once a product crosses the seven-year mark from its distribution cutoff, it becomes classified as obsolete, at which point all official hardware service is discontinued.
